Das Thema der Jahrestagung 2001 der IALE-Region Deutschland verweist auf die Integration von Abiotik und Biotik auf landschaftlicher Ebene und handelt von einigen der Schlüsselfragen der Ökologie: großräumige Muster der Biodiversität in Wechselwirkung zu den Variationen der Ökosysteme unter Berücksichtigung mesoskaliger Umweltprozesse wie Klima, biogeochemische Zyklen, Migration und Ausbreitung.

SEA ICE, which covers approximately 10% of the earth’s ocean surface, plays a major role in the world climate system and is an indicator of global climatic change [12]. The sea ice pack forms the interface between the ocean and atmosphere in the polar regions and mediates the exchange of heat and momentum between them.

Many fundamental aspects of continental structure and dynamics, including those responsible for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, are not yet well understood. This is, in part, because of the diffi culty of piecing together the results of many focused, regional studies carried out by a single investigator or a small team of investigators.
