All papers published in Landscape Ecology

from its origin in 1987 through 1997 are now available for free downloading as PDF files. This includes all 156 articles published prior to the journal being acquired by Kluwer Academic Publishers (KAP). The journal Landscape Ecology was established in 1987, marking the beginning of new growth and synergy within the field. The journal particularly linked the emerging North American strain of landscape ecology with the more established European traditions. The early years of the journal contained many key papers that have helped form the development of landscape ecology in many sub-areas.

Tagungsband mit Kurzfassungen der Beiträge zur 2. Jahrestagung der IALE-Region Deutschland, Oldenburg 13. – 15. September 2001

USE OF REMOTE SENSING DATA AND GIS TECHNOLOGY
ABSTRACT
The aim of the research was to monitor and assess landslide hazards by remote sensing data processing and GIS spatial analysis. The automatic classification of remote sensing images pro-vides many useful land use information to combine in a GIS environment with other spatial factors influencing the occurrence of landslide.

Remote sensing applications
Remote Sensing (RS) refers to the science of identification of earth surface features and estimation of their geo-biophysical properties using electromagnetic radiation as a medium of interaction. Spectral, spatial, temporal and polarization signatures are major characteristics of the sensor/target, which facilitate targe discrimination. Earth surface data as seen by the sensors in different wavelengths (reflected, scattered and/or emitted) is radiometrically and geometrically corrected before extraction of spectral information. RS data, with its ability for a synoptic view, repetitive coverage with calibrated sensors to detect changes, observations at different resolutions, provides a better alternative for natural resources management as compared to traditional methods. Indian Earth Observation (EO) programme has been applications-driven and national development has been its prime motivation.

EarthScope

Many fundamental aspects of continental structure and dynamics, including those responsible for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, are not yet well understood. This is, in part, because of the diffi culty of piecing together the results of many focused, regional studies carried out by a single investigator or a small team of investigators.

Civilian Satellite Remote Sensing

0ver the next two decades, Earth observations from space promise to become increasingly important for predicting the weather, studying global change, and managing global resources. How the U.S. government responds to the political, economic, and technical challenges posed by the growing interest in satellite remote sensing could have a major impact on the use and management of global resources.

Standards Working Group Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC)

The FGDC is composed of representatives from the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, the Interior, State, and Transportation; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the Library of Congress; the National Aeronautics and Space Administration; the National Archives and Records Administration; and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Additional Federal agencies participate on FGDC subcommittees and working groups. The Department of the Interior chairs the committee.

Coastal areas, the place where the waters of the seas meet the land are indeed unique places in our global geography.

Autodesk GIS Workshop
CAD is about building models of real-world objects inside the computer. I believe that in the fullness of time, every object in the world, manufacturing or not, will be modeled inside a computer.

GIS Best Practices
What Is GIS?
Making decisions based on geography is basic to human thinking. Where shall we go, what will it be like, and what shall we do when we get there are applied to the simple event of going to the store or to the major event of launching a bathysphere into the ocean’s depths. By understanding geography and people’s relationship to location, we can make informed decisions about the way we live on our planet. A geographic information system (GIS) is a technological tool for comprehending geography and making intelligent decisions.

Einsatz von GIS und formaler Begriffsanalyse in Altlasten-Informationssystemen
