When you play a game at Gwap, you aren’t just having fun. You’re helping the world become a better place. By playing our games, you’re training computers to solve problems for humans all over the world.

1 You play the game

Let’s take the ESP Game for example. You and a partner see the same image and are asked to type in a tag for it. When you agree on a tag, you move on and are awarded points. After just a minute of play, you’ve agreed on six or seven tags.

2 Computers get smarter

We record those six or seven tags and associate them with the images.

Farming, Food Security and Climate Change Congress (03.03.2009)

Molly E. Brown, a research scientist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA ), has been involved for the past 10 years with the U.S. Agency for International Development’s ( USAID ) use of satellite remote sensing to monitor food security in developing regions. Satellite estimates of crop production play an important role in USAID’s Famine Early Warning System.

According to Brown, changes in population size, reduced yields in the most productive regions and a changing climate all are elements in global food security. When people have enough to eat, U.S. national security, public health and global economic growth are improved. In an age of increasing global connectedness and enhanced technologies, scientists can make better-informed choices that will let the global food system function well for all populations.

A provocative new satellite named Omid (Hope), which was launched by Iran last week, has certainly made its mark in space. For China, Omid represents an unusual opportunity, indeed a gift from Iran. The longstanding debate about China’s role with Iran in space has suddenly changed.

Now China has a chance to step onto the world stage as the world evaluates what Iran is doing, and whether or not China is true to its word when it talks about its peaceful activities in space - which definitely involves its longstanding relationship with Iran.
